Daily Doses: “Somebody” Walsh Feat. Persona La Ave From Don’t Want 2 Fall In Luv (2011)

This delicious little EP by Nashville’s Walsh (aka Brandon Biondo) just hit recently, and is everything I could have hoped for.

Give a listen to the track above. Somebody, the second track on the EP, is a fantastic collaborative effort with Persona La Ave. Colored up with funk and slammed home with some delicious synth work, it’s just kinky enough to be make you want to listen, and just grooving enough to make you start moving.

Daily Doses: WALSH “I Drive The Perv3rt Van” (2010)

New York Times Headlines:

Brandon Biondo goes through a quarter-life crises and changes his name to WALSH.

Releases more amazing tracks.

Crowd goes wild.

Just to make sure we ride that comfortable line between spreading lies, and disseminating a truth before it occurs. I’m not saying this IS the headlines for the New York Times, I’m saying it SHOULD BE.

Brandon Biondo’s first track I mentioned on here was, “Bill Da Bear And His Megafortress”. It remains one of my favorite tracks of his and a constant “gym jam”.

It also really established that when it came to the current beatsmiths I promote, Brandon Biondo is the king of the night life. Since then he’s proven in other tracks he has a pretty diverse style, so I might not pigeon hole him into that any longer, but the jams of his I like to most do tend to be the bangers.

Enter “I Drive The Perv3rt Van”, an aptly named song that seems like it’s perfect video counterpart would be a guy in a Volkswagon van, a pair of glasses, a thick pair of shades and a tiny pair of shorts.

And if you’ve ever wondered if you could dance with that image stuck in your head, I’m here to tell you that if you’ve got this song blasting…

Yes you can.

Amazing new video for Dead As Digital favorite Brandon Biondo From Nathaniel over at Thinkorsmile.com:

“A story of blissed out gnomes who have the ability to distill sunshine and bottle it. Provoked by haters, the gnomes go to battle with goblin buzz killers. After a dip in sunshine juice the goblins are soon doing the happy dance.

Daily Doses: Mat Cothran And Brandon Biondo “Untitled” (2010)

Mat Cothran, the man behind Coma Cinema and Brandon Biondo (Solo beatsmith and part of Knoxville’s COOLRUNNINGS) are two of my favorite musicians/people that I’ve come in contact as through this blog. Both are at the top of the class in talent, and the height of class as people.

So them combining their powers, as far as this blog is concerned, tops out my Christmas list.

The as of yet untitled song is a beautiful scramble, slathered with distorted guitars and  harmonic “ooohhhh and ahhhh’s”, while synths occasionally peek through with melodic leads. The vocals meanwhile are dry as can be, reminding me somewhat of Owen Ashworth of Casiotone For The Painfully Alone.

Hope this is the first of many tracks we hear from these two!

Daily Doses: COOLRUNNINGS “Road To Nowhere” (Talking Heads Cover)

Damn Brandon Biondo and his merry crew of miscreants (Which includes Forest Ferguson and David Thomasson)!

Truth be told, I try to avoid posting the same artists more than once a release. Given how prolific most of the artists I blog about are, it would be all to easy to be a one trick pony, recycling the same 6 artists over and over ad infinitum.

Occasionally the strength of the tracks these artists continuously produce makes me regret not releasing each of their songs, and tossing the one song a day rule out the window. but I decided from the start that if I like an artist enough to post them, I’m also going to give them at least one day of my undivided attention. 24 hours in which they are the center of my tiny corner of the internet.

So given that, I would actually love to avoid posting this… But it’s just so damn good!

The best covers take the original and either re-imagine them completely (As in the case of Blackbird Blackbird’s version of Modest Mouse’s Float On), or work to find all the points in which the band can interject their own personality into the piece. Really making it their own piece, their own expression.

While maintaining the structure of the original, COOLRUNNINGS has done exactly that here. Stretching the song to the seams with their particular brand of mayham. Filling it with more bouncing beats and a killer lead into the second verse and just the right amount of modulated dissonance. This track alone should get me through my day tomorrow.

But then if it can’t, apparently there should be a version of David Bowie’s “Soul Love” popping up on their bandcamp at some point tomorrow.

These guys just never stop.

Feel free to give a listen to the original version of “Road To Nowhere” HERE.

Daily Doses: Brandon Biondo “Bill Da Bear And His Megafortress”

“Dear “The World”, screw your summer days, bring me the nightlife.”

On “Bill Da Bear”, twisty beats screw themselves into aggressively quick bass swells, before pulling the shimmering high end onto the floor to bring it all to a killing close. I swear my heart actually started skipping beats halfway through this song it was so into the rhythm.

You may remember Knoxville’s Brandon Biondo from me mistakingly naming the incorrect singer in his song with his group COOLRUNNINGS. You can relive that gaff, and listen to their amazing song “I Can Be Dreamy” if you like HERE.

Suffice it to say after running through his bandcamp catalog, and jamming this song most of the day, I won’t be messing up his name again any time soon.
